Thursday 11th August was Caitlin’s 3rd birthday. My first baby is growing into such a big girl. I will have to shop for her uniform for nursery in the next couple of weeks.
So, the birthday…
For Caitlin’s main present we decided to get her a slide. This was delivered without hitch on Tuesday and on Wednesday evening after the girls had gone to bed we set about assembling it. The instructions claimed that it was a 2 person, 1 hour assembly. HA!
Everything went smoothly to start with. All the required parts were present and we assembled the step section without difficulty. We then moved on to the supports for the chute which also seemed OK. Could we then fit the two bloody sections together? No, we could not! After several hours of tightening and loosening bolts, carefully studying the blurry diagram, and manipulation of the pieces, we finally got the damn thing together at about 2 am. There were at least two occasions when we just thought the pieces couldn’t possibly fit and there would be no birthday slide. At least it has all been worth it as the slide has been a great big hit!
We had a little party just for family and Caitlin really enjoyed herself. This year she was old enough to help with the preparations including baking and icing fairy cakes and setting out crisps and sausage rolls. She thought this was great fun. She spent the whole day talking about her ‘party friends’ and when they were coming.
I kept the cake a secret (as they should be) and her face just lit up when it was brought in with all the candles on.
Quite a few times during the day she said “Thank you for my birthday, Mummy!” And when Andy was putting her to bed, she said “There were little cakes with pink icing and they tasted all pinky pink!!” and quivered with excitement!
I think she enjoyed her day! (And I didn’t get stressed :-))
